Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürenberg (FAU), established in 1743, is one of the largest and most prestigious universities for research in Germany,with approximately 40,000 students, over 600 professors and around 16,000 members of staff. Approximately 25 percent of students come from abroad.
As a university which offers the entire spectrum of academic disciplines, FAU offers more than 275 degree programs across its five faculties. Since 2024, it has acquired more than 300 million euros in third-party funding and is regularly one of the ten universities to receive the most funding from the DFG. Research focuses include immunomedicine, quantum technologies, medical engineering, new materials, solar energy, artificial intelligence and human rights. Close collaborations with leading extramural research institutions and market-leading companies strengthen FAU’s role as an innovative university with strong international connections.
